Coming up this Friday, besides celebrating the year of 1991 which featured the greatest movie of all time in Terminator 2: Judgement day, and featuring one of the most overplayed wedding songs of all time in November Rain, we begin our exploration of Grunge.
What's grunge I hear you ask? its rock music at its dirtiest and nastiest when it comes to guitar riffs, examples include tracks like smells like teen spirit by nirvana and outshined by soundgarden.
it also has lyrics that decry things like materialism and themes that are woefully untouched on even today, such as feelings of social/emotional isolation, addiction and trauma. topics that bring introspection juxtaposed to the hedonistic, party themed attitude of hair metal
but its not all bad, some of our greatest thinkers of the 90s were able to be heard through grunge and it influenced many great bands of today as well as having a lasting impact on teens and adults alike and it gave us badass fashion like plaid and ripped jeans and skate clothes. And yes now you can see why this is a music podcast and not a fashion one.
