Where are we? Hard decisions!

Where are we? Hard decisions!

Feb 27, 2023

After cycling more than 1,600 km on the peninsula, Baja California, we took the boat to mainland Mexico. After challenging ourselves physically and mentally for 7 weeks on the BAJA DIVIDE, a cycling route that deviates from the Highway and goes zig-zagging and off-road to the south, we took a week's vacation in Mazatlán. There we had to make a decision on how to continue our trip, and it didn't go smoothly.

For the first time since the start of our trip, we find ourselves wanting to do different things. Our needs were different and we tried to figure out a plan that we'd both agree on, provided we made some concessions on both sides.

After some consideration we came up with a pretty epic plan, if we may say ourselves. But a plan that we'll actually follow... that just doesn't sound like us. Stefanie's hands kept hurting, Niels had a knee/hip injury and if that wasn't enough we had to deal with bed bugs twice. An allergic reaction for Stefanie caused a bit of panic, so the planned route had to be changed quickly.

We went to Oaxaca by bus and have been here for almost a week now. A city we can get used to, both! The ideal place to rest and take care of our bodies. In the meantime we enjoy the amazing food and art scene in this cool place.

The hardest part is to see our bikes just standing there, waiting for us. This gets to us on some moments, but for now we have different priorities. Health first!
