Staying safe just takes a little common sense and following your instincts. I tell people I am as safe where I am now as I would be back home sometimes safer.

It’s important to remember to pay attention and use common sense. If it feels wrong it probably is. If you’re not comfortable then walk away.

Here are some practical safety tips to remember:

✔️ Stay connected and always alert- make sure your phone is always fully charged or at least carry a back up battery that is fully charged.
✔️ Know how to say HELP in the countries dialect. Learn any emergency phrase.
✔️ Look confident - try not to look like the lost tourist even if you are.
✔️ When using google directions what I do is keep one ear piece on to hear the directions and every so often I look at my phone to know where to going. So I’m not looking like I’m a lost puppy.
✔️Let your family or friends know your itinerary.
✔️ Always have copies of your passport somewhere safe and separate from your actual passport.
✔️ Have emergency cash in the countries currency put away someplace safe as a backup if you ever need it. Sometimes there aren’t ATM’s available.
✔️ Have an emergency credit card hidden somewhere in your suitcase or backpack in case of emergency. ***Never Ever keep all your cards in one place***
✔️Always read reviews of where ever you’re staying at and always see how far of a walk it is from the center and if transportation is close by.
✔️ALWAYS ALWAYS TRUST YOUR GUT INSTINCTS! It’s usually never wrong.
