I have just published the next version of the T-Deck firmware, which has some pretty cool enhancements and features.
The first will be apparent immediately--the startup screen. You should hear a soothing welcome sound played on the built-in speaker! Finally, proper sound support. Note: if you have a piezo buzzer installed you will need to remove it, as it will just constantly scream at you with this firmware :-)
Also, you might notice a beautiful, shiny new logo:
Alert Sounds
Now that there is proper sound support, when you receive a message an alert sound is played in a loop. Any key press or screen tap will dismiss this alert. If you want a custom sound all you need to do is place a sound file named alert.mp3 onto the root directory of the SD card. Similarly, with the startup sound, you can customise by placing a file name startup.mp3
New Conversation UI
The conversation screens can now be rendered in two modes, with or without timestamps! If you go into the context menu, you should see the new 'Timestamps' menu:
Sample of the two modes:
NOTE: this will undoubtedly also highlight what happens when you don't wait for the 'GPS time sync' at startup. If you sent messages before the clock was synced, then you will see circa 2021 timestamps :-(
T-Deck PLUS Support
This release is also compatible with the newer T-Deck Plus model. With the built-in GPS on the pins 43, 44 these are now freed up as the piezo buzzer is no longer needed.
Screenshots
If you're wondering how these pixel-perfect screen captures above were captured, well... you can also do this with this latest firmware. Just do a long-tap in the top-left corner of the screen until you see the whole screen go white. The screen contents are then written to a .BMP file on the SD card. Simples.
Wrap Up
Ok, that's it for this release. I hope you all find this new release even better than the previous, and as always let me know if there are features you'd like to see.
regards,
Scott Powell.
