You might think the best thing about having a YouTube channel is creating the video. It is not! Let's face it; trying to keep a channel updated with new content regularly so the YouTube "algorithm" works for you is a time-consuming, and often frustrating process. And if like me, you have a real job, there are too few hours in the day. No, for me, the best thing about a YouTube channel is the process of continually refining your "studio" (because really…is a basement a studio?). It may be unusual to some, but I enjoy arranging and categorizing my retro-computers and related memorabilia.
And there's no long time commitment. I can sneak this work in between meals, during virtual meeting breaks, on the weekends, or any other time where there's a ten-minute lull in my hectic schedule. This opportunity to reconnect with my favorite hobby, inspires me to plan or begin work on that next video or live stream.
For instance, I had little time to produce any new content this past week; however, The Lovely Accountant and I stopped by IKEA on the way to a family event. Of course, we partook of some Swedish meatball munchies, but I also grabbed a few shelves needed to complete my IVAR bookshelf/desk combination that is the backdrop for my live streams and many of my prepared videos.
On those shelves you will find my retro-computers, peripherals, and books. Part of the fun is trying to figure out how to arrange everything so it looks good "in video"; and I have a long way to go. One day, I'll take time and give you, my Buy Me A Coffee supporters, a good look around the "studio", or basement. Until then, look at early videos on the channel and then look at recent live stream videos. I think you will notice a huge difference not only in video quality, but in the scenes.
I'm able to do these things because of my supporters.
