🐙 Octopuses belong in the ocean, not on farms.
Octopuses are intelligent, sentient animals with complex behavioural needs. Confining them in intensive farming systems would raise serious animal welfare concerns while putting further pressure on marine ecosystems.
REthink ANIMALS has joined organisations from around the world in signing an open letter coordinated by Compassion in World Farming, calling on the European Commission to:
Ban octopus farming across the European Union.
Prohibit the sale of products from octopus farms outside the EU.
We have an opportunity to prevent a new industry of animal exploitation before it becomes established.
Animal protection must extend to all species, including those living beneath the surface.

🐙 Τα χταπόδια δεν ανήκουν σε εκτροφεία.
Τα χταπόδια είναι ευφυή, αισθανόμενα ζώα, με σύνθετες συμπεριφορικές ανάγκες. Η εντατική εκτροφή τους θα δημιουργούσε σοβαρά προβλήματα ευζωίας, ενώ παράλληλα θα ασκούσε πρόσθετη πίεση στα θαλάσσια οικοσυστήματα.
Η REthink ANIMALS συνυπέγραψε, μαζί με οργανώσεις από όλο τον κόσμο, ανοιχτή επιστολή της Compassion in World Farming προς την Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή, ζητώντας:
Την απαγόρευση της εκτροφής χταποδιών σε ολόκληρη την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση.
Την απαγόρευση πώλησης προϊόντων από εκτροφεία χταποδιών εκτός ΕΕ.
Έχουμε την ευκαιρία να αποτρέψουμε τη δημιουργία μιας νέας βιομηχανίας εκμετάλλευσης ζώων, πριν αυτή εδραιωθεί.
Η προστασία των ζώων πρέπει να αφορά όλα τα είδη, ακόμη και εκείνα που ζουν κάτω από την επιφάνεια της θάλασσας.
