Creating personalized presets in DaVinci Resolve can significantly streamline your workflow across different projects. Whether it's customizing titles, effects, or generators, here's a step-by-step guide on saving and utilizing your own presets efficiently.
Method 1: Saving to Mediapool
This method suits Titles and Generators and offers accessibility within the current project or through exporting for use in other databases.
Organize in Mediapool: Start by creating a dedicated Bin within the Mediapool to store your presets. This ensures a structured approach for easy navigation.
Customize Title: Add the title to the timeline and access its settings in the Inspector. Adjust font, size, color, duration, and other desired parameters to your preference. Don't forget to incorporate additional effects like Fade In/Fade Out if necessary.
Save the Preset: Once customized, simply drag the modified title from the timeline into your designated folder in the Mediapool. Rename it promptly for better identification.
Utilize Across Projects: With the preset now stored in the Mediapool, it becomes accessible for use in different sections of your current project.
Consider PowerBin: For wider accessibility across projects within the same database, save it to the PowerBin. Additionally, export the bin containing saved presets for backup, transfer, or sharing purposes.
Note: Project settings influence preset display. Ensure compatibility between settings for optimal usage.
Method 2: Saving as a Fusion Macro
This method suits any effect type (Titles/Transitions/Generators/Effects) and provides portability across projects and databases.
Set Up and Save: Customize your effect, then click the "magic wand" icon in the Inspector's upper right corner and navigate to Fusion. Highlight the effect's node, right-click, select Settings, then Save as, and choose the path to save it in .setting format.
File Location: Save the file in the appropriate directory:
MacOS: Macintosh HD/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Fusion/Templates/Edit/
Windows: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Fusion\Templates\Edit/
Categorize: Organize your presets within relevant folders (Effects/Generators/Titles/Transitions) and create subfolders for further organization.
Availability: The saved effect will be accessible in the effects list (restart may be required). It becomes available in any project, in any database, and remains intact during standard program updates.
Extra Tip: Saving Settings within an Effect
For any effect we can create multiple versions of settings. To do this, you need to enable the use of versions at the top of the inspector. If the effect did not have versions enabled initially, this setting will not be visible on the Edit page, so go to the Fusion page and enable versioning.
This feature is advantageous for tailoring different titles or adjusting Safezone generator settings, for example.
Now we can save our effect in one of the ways described above.
