Of the 25,944 words Luke uses in his gospel, there were only four times he used the word opened with three instances penned in chapter 24:

That eyes were opened (verse 31);

Scriptures were opened (verse 32);

Understanding was opened (verse 45).

To see in the spiritual, it takes the Holy Spirit to open our understanding--the natural man cannot discern the things of the Spirit.

It can be a challenge to initially “see” the Lord work immediately at times in our everyday life. In many instances, we can recognize how He worked after time passed, followed by a heartfelt reflection. However, we can have instant "sight," with a prayer before reading the Scripture, asking for the Holy Spirit to open our understanding, and let us “see” fresh things in the Scripture.

Isaiah said, “And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed: And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned” (Isaiah 29:11-12 KJV).

Again, regardless of whether one is learned or unlearned, things of the Spirit cannot be correctly discerned without the Spirit of God.

My desire today is to see something fresh in my Bible reading and practice Revelation 1:3 ESV, “Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.”
