AI didn't kill programming languages — it split them into three jobs

Sep 19, 2026

Thanks as always for the support. 🙏

Someone on a call said it like a slogan: "Just prompt it in English. Languages are dead." I get why that lands — agents write diffs, Copilot finishes the function, weekend apps appear from a paragraph. If you squint, the keyboard looks ceremonial.

Then Monday shows up. Auth still has to compile. Billing still has to reconcile. The hot path still has to survive a traffic spike. And the agent still invents a response shape that is not the one your route handler promised.

English did not replace the stack. It became a remote control for intent.

AI didn't kill programming languages — it forced specialisation, into three jobs that keep showing up in real systems. Orchestration, mostly Python: glue, notebooks, agents, data, eval harnesses. Product surface, mostly TypeScript: UI, APIs, SDKs, the typed fence users and agents both bump into. Safety and hot path, Rust and Go: memory edges, concurrency, the code that must not shrug.

The builders who win don't pick the right language. They design the seams. 👇

If it sharpens a stack decision, a coffee keeps these coming. ☕❤️
