“The Root Before the Fruit: Loving Knowledge Starts with Correct ʿAqīdah”

May 09, 2025

Everyone wants to seek knowledge today…

Books, lectures, courses, certificates—it’s everywhere.

But how many begin with the most important step?

Correcting the heart. Correcting the ʿAqīdah.

Because without the right foundation, knowledge becomes dangerous.

It becomes pride. It becomes performance. It becomes confusion.

Before you speak, ask—do I even know who Allah is, truly?

Before you teach, ask—do I know what the Prophet ﷺ brought in its full clarity?

Before you study tafsir, hadith, or law…

Learn what you believe.

Clean your heart.

Strengthen your core.

Imām Mālik رحمه الله said:

“Lā yuṣliḥu ākhira hādhihi al-ummah illā mā aṣlaḥa awwalahā.”

“Nothing will rectify the latter part of this Ummah except what rectified its first part.”

And what rectified the first part?

Sound belief. Certainty. Tazkiyah. Sincerity.

They didn’t seek knowledge to argue.

They sought it to be guided.

So seek knowledge. Love it deeply.

But never forget—

The fruit is only as strong as the root.

And that root… is ʿAqīdah.
