Half Face Venom Mask. Design, sculpture and casting

Jun 17, 2022

A brief guide to creating a Venom mask. For reference, we take one of the action figures (for example).

The best way to create a master model for this mask is sculpture (the option with a 3d model and printing is also relevant if you are engaged in 3d modeling).

First we need the base of the head of the right size. The best option is molding from your head with alginate and casting a copy (or 3d scanning and printing). The easiest option is to find a mannequin of a similar head size to yours.

The next step is to create a sculpture. We recommend using Monster Clay (any clay for modeling is also suitable).

Creating a sculpture. We recommend using as many references as possible from all sides.

The base is created by hand (do not forget to choose a clay of suitable softness). The most useful tools of the sculptor are loops and brushes for smoothing.

The sculpture is finished. We check the details from all sides.

We proceed to the silicone mold and plastic casting (for a detailed description of these processes, we can create a separate guide).

Well, it's almost finished. You can make the version more glossy or matte (using a lacquer coating).

Useful details:

  • 1. To simulate saliva, we recommend using a special transparent modeling gel (used by modelers to simulate water and transparent texture).

You can also use transparent puff paint, clear varnish and hot glue.

  • 2. For casting small protruding parts (such as some teeth), it is better to create separate molds (or create it from a special thermoplastic). And then glue it to the main mask.

  • 3. Wearing and size. Polymerization of urethane plastic can take from several minutes to an hour. You can get an almost finished mask model out of the mold and adjust the width and cut off unnecessary details. Also, almost all plastics become softer when exposed to high temperature (for example, a hot hair dryer), this will allow you to adjust some parts to size. Or you can make a removable part with a mount (magnets, Velcro, etc.). Here is an example of using a removable part with a magnet:

The mask is finished for collection or wearing. For a complete Eddie Brock cosplay, you can add jeans, a hoodie and a symbiote arm.

Thanks for your attention! You can order this and other masks from us. We will be grateful for the support and donation on this platform. There will be new guides and finished projects soon.
