Myth of the profession: Do I really need just a pencil and paper?
Have you heard that the best thing is an A4 sheet and a pencil... Yes? Just take it in your hands, put an apple on a saucer in front of you, and start. You can also seat a friend for posing or take a photo of Taylor Swift.
Let me tell you a couple of myths that turned out to be true. In this post, you will find out how real the biased opinions we see on the internet are.
1) If you've learned to draw on paper, it will be difficult to draw in digital. I haven't met a traditional artist who knows how to draw on a computer as well.
The technique of drawing on paper is very different from a computer. There is no Ctrl+Z on paper, no layers that you can easily delete, no transformation of parts of an object, and the computer also doesn't smell like delicious paints. It seems that having learned to draw on paper, you can easily switch to a computer. But it all depends on the hand... the skill of the hand is accustomed to using traditional tools, and it needs time to adapt. The same thing happens when switching from digital graphics to paper. Approximately 6 months.
2) AI art is already being actively sold, and this has destroyed the market for adoptables and merchandise. In 10-20 years, game artists may disappear; a robot AI will draw any sketch for a customer. Only the very best artists will remain.
This is a terrible truth that is not regulated by any law yet. Draw at the AI level, or it will be difficult to enter the industry in the future. Know and be able to do more. I see many professionals on LinkedIn who are already looking for work. There is no place for laziness here.
3) It doesn't matter in which program you draw (everyone uses only 2-3: Photoshop, Clip Studio, Procreate, Krita (free), Paint Tool SAI (old)). What programs do you know? Write in the comments if you want.
4) A good tablet won't improve your skill; however, your health and comfort will improve! Remember a good piece of advice: the larger the tablet size, the more comfortable and relaxed it is to draw.
5) An artist must study for 8 years, understand anatomy, space, color theory, physics of movement, 3D sculpting, architecture, and marketing...
6) Art is subjective. Beautiful or not - the viewer decides. Sometimes they pay a lot of money for art, the value of which may be completely incomprehensible to you and me.
