You will know

  • My story about how I was constantly rejected by game studios in my country

Suppressing her tears and disappointment, enduring mocking incomprehension, she walked into the sunset...

I resembled that guy on the talent show stage who couldn't sing but insisted he'd be a star. The judges laughed at him and said, "We can't offer you anything." Hopelessness. That's how my attempts to get a job at some TOP game studios in my area always ended.

I have been drawing since I was five years old (and also writing poetry), but my parents didn't believe in my success and the reliability of this profession, so after school, I went to study to become a teacher, but in the end, I still became an artist. I had to go through the path of self-teaching, and when I see job postings requiring an art degree, it makes me tremble.

Art is not a precise job, you are not performing surgeries or piloting planes, so the strictness regarding diplomas is unclear to me. You can learn art history on your own in a week. And by the way, I have many such books. But of course it’s great if you have money for education.

They were willing to hire novice artists with a portfolio of 5 illustrations, but someone like me wasn't even fit for concept art with anime art, let alone casual rendering. With over 6 years of experience with clients, a TOP rating on a freelance site, and working with clients worldwide from the USA, Canada, France, Italy... I was still an outcast to them.

Overhauling my portfolio from scratch and completing 3 illustration courses in 1.5 years during the war when I had no electricity, internet, or work—when bombs fell every night and people wished violence upon you—I created a new portfolio based on acquired knowledge, building up speed. Still, I faced rejection.

I ask myself, is my art still bad? It's still bad... to them, it's still bad.

So, I bought a couple of marketing books, one by Scott Belsky, the founder of Behance. He talked about the suffering his business endured, the things people usually don't mention.

We all want to start and immediately see results, and few talk about the details of each stage's difficulties.

I started studying, bought 2 courses and 10 more, bought more than 40 books. This time I decided to play big and then created this blog. Although I don’t know what lies ahead. However, I realized that I don’t want to earn money for some studio owner for a yacht and apartments in California lol... what should I do?

Stay in touch.
