Right, so since v0.30.0, the app's had a complete personality transplant, and honestly, it's about time. The dashboard finally looks like something you'd actually want to look at. Everything spins around your house now — solar, grid, battery, the EV charger — with little coloured moving dots so you can tell at a glance where the power is going instead of squinting at numbers. The battery gauge is a vertical strip that goes green when everything's fine and angry red when you're about to lose lights. The bottom nav picks up the same colours, so nothing clashes anymore. Gateway owners stopped getting lies about their battery power.
Talking of lies — the big one. Gateway battery power was completely inverted. You'd have solar pumping 6kW, the house sipping 600W, and somehow the app thought the battery was "discharging" at 5.5kW while exporting 11kW back to the grid. Not physically possible. Turns out the dongle uses the opposite sign convention for gateway registers, and we were just passing it through verbatim. Fixed now. Sorry about that.
Quick Actions work on the Gateway now. They didn't before. We were writing to registers the Gateway straight-up doesn't have, so the inverter nodded politely and did nothing. Whoops.
Force Charge and Force Discharge got a duration slider now — pick how long (1 to 1440 minutes), and it auto-reverts when it's done. No more setting a 4-hour charge window and finding the inverter still stuck in "paused" mode at 3 a.m. Stop actually restores whatever you were doing before instead of dumping you into Eco and quietly neutering your discharge schedule.
That discharge schedule thing was also busted. Every time you touched Eco mode, the app would wipe your carefully configured slot times because that's what the firmware needs to not re-arm discharge automatically. But there was no restore. So every trip into Eco meant spending 20 minutes re-entering your Octopus windows by hand. It backs up now. Survives a crash. Stop worrying.
History costs finally add up too. Six-month totals used to randomly show less money than one-month totals. The server was computing costs from averaged-down data, then the browser was re-price-averaging on top of that, and the whole thing just went sideways. Every buck is now assigned at full resolution against the rate that was actually running at that exact moment. Every range agrees. Peak and off-peak actually separate correctly.
Tariffs went from one peak/off-peak pair to up to six windows for import and export each. Octopus Flux people can stop modelling their rates in a spreadsheet.
Weather data from Open-Meteo dropped in for free. The temperature chart now shows how hot the battery is compared to the outside air, which is useful when you're wondering whether the garage is cooking your cells.
Solar got split into per-string PV1 and PV2. If one string goes quiet, you can actually see which one. Phantom PV2 on single-string installs got killed.
Per-block retry on Modbus timeouts. Bit of a nerdy one, but it matters. The dongle sometimes pauses between responses, and the old code tore down the whole TCP connection after three strikes. New code retries the block that hung, waits 500 ms, tries again. Only drops the connection if the socket actually breaks. Reconnect dropped from minutes to about 36 seconds.
There's now a Minimal Telemetry Mode toggle for people whose dongle is just chronically awful — skips the fancy optional register blocks, keeps the core readings flowing.
Read-only API on port 7338 with a bearer token so you can plug in SolarWatch or Home Assistant without worrying about the control endpoints. One-click support bundle that strips your serial number and ships logs over ntfy so you don't have to copy-paste developer console output by hand anymore.
Pushover joined Telegram and ntfy as a notification option. Connection lost notifications came in too — the dongle dies at 2 a.m., you know at 2:01.
Telegram bot got a lot more useful — /today, /battery, /mode, /version, /help, autocomplete in the chat, and it's allowlisted to your chat ID now so random people who find your bot can't interrogate your solar production.
Settings page got dragged into a logical reading order instead of the numbered layout that skipped from 4 to 7 and buried EV Charger in the middle of first-time setup. Control tab can be hidden now if you don't use manual override.
Oh, and the WhatsApp thing is gone. Never really worked — the unofficial protocol can't deliver messages to devices on the same account, so alerts went into a black hole. Sorry to anyone who tried setting it up.
