Tasa Mammon on Ca Lirach
Since last year I've been having some sort of worship to King Mammon. And I've seen , little by little, things are getting better for me. I get if you don't believe in him, or if you have other beliefs, but this is working for me by the time I'm writing this.
But I also noticed that, besides some ancient syrian statues (that cannot been verified it's link to his worship, so may or not be him) and some devilish personifications in the middle ages grimoires (depecting him as a demon), there was actually no iconography for such reverent deity in modern times (and who's adoration grows by the day, as ancient faiths around the world are having a comeback).
It doesn't help that, as japanese anime is oftenly using old myths as source for their characters, if you search Mammon in Google images you may find at least 3 kawaii anime personifications of him, that in their own series may be relevant, but definetly doesn't do justice to his worship.
So, based in the old tales of him using both a scale for commerce and justice, and a flail to slave you if you abuse of his help (as the God of Wealth and Commerce, that would bring you equilibrium if you behave, or make you an addict if you don't), I started to depic him with that in mind. As someone that can provide success and benefits to who are in his favor, I thought in a cornucopia in an angelical-like being.
As that horn of plenty reminded me to Abundia (another abundance being, normally seen as an angel to new-age christians), and Mammon being a supreme God, I decided to somehow syncretize both in the icon, along with Zeus (from who the cornucopia origin is from). So I used a image of a Zeus statue as base for drawin Mammon, as I added the details exclusive of him, such as his sygil, the different seals of money, the purple robe (wich in antiquety only the wealthy ones could afford) and his victory laurel crown.
A night before I made his drawing, I dreamt with crows and blackbirds, and that a baing that I sense it was him, grabbed me on the shoulders, and had a bird like silloute. That same morning, a blackbird was outside my house and as I follow his flight in my way to work, I found a 200 pesos (10 dlls) scattered on the floor. That promt me to add the crow somewhere in the icon (and, as I search for the image I would use as base, I also found an old drawing being sold in reprints of Mammon in a half-human half-bird personification, which in the moment was kind of scary, lol.)
He would wear gold, and have a pile of gold to bring to the masses who adore him, and would pose infront of a green background (a color hisorically asociated with money, specially in our modern day where dollars are printed in green ink). With those final details, I ended my work.
My modern take of Mammon's iconography would be ready.
And with hope and faith, it may reach and spread among other believers as well.
