Henry VIII’s Gate, Windsor Castle

Now the public exit, this gate is named ‘Henry VIII’s Gate’ after its builder. Built very early into Henry’s reign (circa 1511), the badges on the town side clearly indicate this as Henry’s creation.

1 - Fleur-de-Lis, symbol of the Royal family of France because of the English Kings’ insistence for keeping that flame/claim alive!

2 - The Pomegranate, badge of Henry’s wife, Katherine of Argon.

3 - The Tudor Rose

4 - The Beaufort Portcullis, badge of Henry’s formidable grandmother Margaret Beaufort

5 - A small depiction of the gate.
