Elizabeth I is Crowned - 15th January 1559

On this day in history, the third of Henry VIII's children to succeed to the English throne, Elizabeth I was crowned at Westminster Abbey.

Elizabeth was the daughter of Anne Boleyn who had been executed, on trumped up charges of treason, in May 1536.

Anne had been pregnant with Elizabeth at her own coronation in June 1533.

I wonder if Elizabeth had her mother on her mind as she sat on the coronation chair on top of the Cosmati pavement...what do you think?
