EA's relationship with stadia hasn't been incredible. It's been a bit confusing to say the least.
With FIFA 21 launching 6 months late but then 22 releasing the same day as other platforms with next gen features. It's unclear where they stand in terms of bringing future releases. We know EA had a 5 game contract with Stadia and people were hopeful that other games may come later but that hasn't been the case unfortunately.
So whether or not FIFA 23 will come to the cloud via Stadia has been up for some debate. But after a post from EA today, the future is looking promising.
I bought FIFA 21 on Stadia as I genuinely believe it is the best place to play. Being able to play the full game anywhere any time you have an internet connection. Not only can you enjoy thre game anywhere and everywhere but you can also manage your Ultimate team on the go in the game in stead of using the separate app. a literal game changer.
When 22 Launched with next gen features and plenty of people still struggled to get hold of a PS5 or Xbox series X ii pushed the idea of stadia on to people. Get the next gen features without the next gen misery. But i always hit the same roadblock, "My friends play on PlayStation/Xbox". a genuine problem that you hear with different games. Getting people from one platform to the other is always hindered by not wants to ostracise themselves from their friends list. Understandable.
Now the narrative is changing. FIFA are testing crossplay on FIFA 22 which is a sure sign that FIFA 23 will support crossplay out of the gate. And given that stadia is a part of that testing (PC version is not) the odds of FIFA 23 coming to stadia have just increased dramatically. It's not certain, but it is very likely.
So will stadia be the best place to play? Well, current gen consoles still aren't readily available. the scales may have just tipped in favour of Stadia and it could be the best place to play. We will just have to see what happens in the coming months.
Stay tuned.
