A rare model, since it was planned to build ten NATI-2s, but the resources allowed for the construction of only five, and in practice it was possible to assemble six engines, five chassis and five bodies, but only three full-fledged vehicles were assembled.

Its features included an air-cooled engine, a tubular backbone frame, aluminum pistons, independent rear wheel suspension and no differential. The chassis base was lengthened to 2730 mm to accommodate pickup and phaeton bodies. The first five prototypes were equipped with overhead valve engines. For the following NATI-2 cars, lower valve engines were developed, which weighed as much as 20 kg less. The four-cylinder engine produced 22 horsepower at 2,800 rpm. With a fully loaded weight of 730 kg, the car reached speeds of up to 75 km/h.

After the car was built, around 1933, there was a lot of controversy about the success of the design of this car. The air cooling system received unanimous recognition and was liked by everyone. But the design of the engine remained a controversial issue. It would be possible to reduce its volume and power, as many believed, and this would lead to greater efficiency of the car. But others believed that the car would have lost a lot in its driving qualities and technical characteristics. Everyone remained to their own opinion.

In those years, the idea of motorizing the country was very popular and all authorities, media and individuals were engaged in propaganda activities on this topic. The public organization Avtodor was also involved in such propaganda; it was they who sponsored the construction of the first samples of the NATI-2 model. Newspapers constantly published letters from readers, where the latter expressed a desire to buy a car. People would like a car that would be easy to maintain, well suited to the road conditions of the USSR, have a fairly soft suspension and handle well on dirt roads, be economical and affordable. Everyone wanted to own their own car, because there were more and more motorists, and amateur clubs were created everywhere, even in villages.

In this regard, Avtodor enthusiastically undertook to finance the serial production of NATI-2, hoping that this car would become a people's favorite. But these global plans were not destined to come true, since at the same time the Gorky Automobile Plant was already being built in the Soviet Union (producing GAZ cars). Therefore, it was decided not to spend money on another automobile production.
