In 2021, almost against my will, I was morbidly transfixed by Squid Game.
I later learnt I was far from alone.
This series made me think my in-progress dystopian novel, The Game, was redundant, and doomed.
Thirty years ago, I thought my subversion, and (non-gratuitous) violence pushed the envelope.
But this was just the jumping off point for Squid Game.
So when Squid Game 2 came out, I expected the final nail in my literary coffin.
Yes, the violence is all there.
But towards the end, it seems to run out of time, money, gravitas, and/or ideas.
This may be an awful review.
In fairness, you can read Chapter 01 of The Game,
and decide if it's a quaint gewgaw
from the past.
