I am a dedicated pan flute musician who has worked seriously and purposefully with my music for over 40 years (!) now.
As traditional live concerts have become less in demand in recent years,
have I chosen to explore the digital world in order to convey my music to a wider audience,
I started to play the pan flute at around the age of twelve, after hearing Gheorghe Zamfir playing a Romanian folk tune on the Norwegian radio.
I was deeply moved by the tune ( Cintecul lui Iancu Jianu ) that was very different from everything he had heard before. I just loved it and decided that he had to play this instrument.
I got hold of a very simple pan flute and started to learn on my own, listening to records, and folk music programs on Romanian radio.

Short bio:
Roar Engelberg is from the country side in east Norway and started playing the pan flute already at the age of 12.
He soon developed into the country's leading pan flutist.
As the first professional performer in Scandinavia, he has developed the pan flute into a full-fledged solo instrument.
He has performed in a multitude of musical contexts and has held concerts of popular and chamber music, traditional pan flute music from Romania and South America, as well as being a soloist with a number of symphony orchestras.
In 1989, he was the first in Western Europe to complete the soloist studies on pan flute at the Amsterdam Hoeghschoole für die Kunsten, where he received the highest attainable grade.
He has become known to a wide audience through numerous radio and television appearances and has released 19 solo albums.
He has toured the whole of Norway several times with e.g. Stein-Erik Olsen, Iver Kleive, Sondre Bratland, Anita Skorgan, Elisabeth Andreasson, Stefan Bucurs Ensemble, Balkansamblet and his own orchestra; Primas and has also held concerts
in Sweden, Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Finland, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Romania, the USA, Korea, India and Japan.
He was knighted in 2007; "Meritul cultural in grad de Cavaler", by the Romanian president for his work with the country's folk music.
