Since 2023 I have had the great fortune of working with Ffin y Parc gallery. Part of that work is travelling with Ralph Sanders to visit his artists at their homes and studios to discuss an upcoming exhibition. Three of these trips were to see Kevin Sinnott at his home in Pontycomer, Wales.
Kevin was nervous at first and so was Ralph, as Kevin was his hero and the reason he started investing in Art and made a gallery of his own years ago. I found his space fascinating. It was busy with large and small paintings and filled with his vibrant colours. Everywhere I looked was his bright greens and pinks in landscapes and the faces of characters in his paintings. I even got to see him painting at his easel and capture it on camera - quite a treat indeed!
Sadly, Kevin passed away on the 27th of July 2026. He had warned us a few times that he was long for this world and I think Ralph and I just assumed that he would still be around making work and attending shows for years to come. He did attend his final show at Ffin y Parc gallery in Llandudno and thankfully, a video was made of the event and caught the excitement of the collectors and visitors who were there to experience the work in person.
I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to meet all of these amazing artists through the gallery and hope that my work will help to expose more people to their wonderful creative output.
Kevin and a great sense of humour and always kept Ralph and I on our toes! We mainly talked about his work and exhibitions, but on occasion he would like to talk about politics or the local characters in town. His studio in town was filled with beautiful paintings and one of which was absolutely massive! I will include some images from our visits to show some of the fantastic sights as well as some sweet moments between Ralph and Kevin.
I hope you look into Kevin's work if you are not already familiar with him. He became famous for his painting 'Running Away with the Hairdresser'. Since then he has made more and more ambitious work and even after having a fall and having to use an oxygen tank he was keen to paint new pieces. He will be sorely missed and his emotional and intellectual mark has been made on fine art history forever.
