The Perth Reader’s Association Inc. has been registered as an incorporated association.
The Association’s stated purpose is, ‘To reopen Leederville's Oxford St Books and operate it as a community not-for-profit in perpetuity.’
The category of our Association is the ‘Promotion or encouragement of literature, science or the arts.’
This will allow us to take the next step of registering as a charity, and provide members and supporters with the confidence of responsible governance.
We’ve had over 30 expressions of interest to serve on our inaugural board. As such, we’ll expand the number of board members from 6 to 12 members.
We’ll be making contact with our shortlist this week, with the full board announced next month—the first meeting to follow shortly after.
We’ve uncovered some phenomenal talent including writers, journalists, civic leaders, and peeps who’ve previously worked with major charities.
The board will be in charge of all major decisions including hiring a store manager who will recruit staff, run the store and manage volunteers.
