Well, it turns out this is Just One of Those Weeks.
So, we're having a spot of severe weather in Wisconsin this week. Nothing too severe—just some wind advisories and threats of bad storms. But it did shake up our internet availability yesterday, and that has created a few issues for us.
When you're a company without a brick and mortar, you rely on the internet. Most companies rely on the internet these days, I guess, but when you don't have a physical building, you really rely on the internet. So we were trying to get work done remotely, as usual, yesterday, and Katie's internet just wasn't cooperating. And then mine started blipping in and out (repeatedly, for hours), and we realized it was probably a Madison-area-wide problem.
And that meant we probably had to cancel an Instagram Live event we had scheduled for last night to discuss independent publishing and Amazon, which was unfortunate. Not just that we had to cancel it at the last minute, but that because it was actually the second time we had to cancel the Live. Although we hadn't publicized the first planned Live, we had planned to hold it the first time around last week—and rescheduled it due to illness.
So now we are hoping that the third time will be the charm and Katie and I can actually hop on Instagram to chat live—and take questions—about the nature of publishing independently in the "Amazon Age" and what that means for small businesses. (Stay tuned for rescheduling information!)
And today I played half-CEO all day, as I needed to celebrate my second son, who turned thirteen! Celebrating birthdays (baking cakes—always multiple for my family, as we have food allergies—and wrapping presents and prepping all the fun stuff) always takes most of the day, so I've been "out of the office" to make the day special for my son. And then I also got word that my brother and his wife gave birth to my... maybe 10th—12th nephew? (I honestly can't keep track at this point—so many nieces and nephews).
So as I made cake(s) today and balanced Owl's Nest chats with the team and texted with family and while I stared out the window at the pouring rain and thought about all the presents that still needed wrapping upstairs and the fact that at least my new nephew shares a birthday with one of my four sons—because I'm pretty sure I have another nephew's birthday coming up in a week or so and I just can't remember when—I thought, you know what? What's going to get done is going to get done. Sometimes there's just no rushing life. And that's okay.
