Frost-free Days.

Mar 21, 2025

Although the forecast tells of frosts returning next week (blimey, we're nearly in April) we have had a few days of warm, sunny weather which have been so very welcome. I have been able to get lots of garden jobs done - mostly tidying - but also gave the lawns their first haircut of the year plus a strim around the edges which instantly makes the whole place look smarter. Spring colour is everywhere now, the white and yellow phases are in full flow with tete-a-tete daffodils, primroses and cowslips, hellebore and winter jasmine and the last remaining snowdrops, next comes the blue phase of grape hyacinths, bluebells, violets and forget-me-nots - pure joy.

Greenhouse-wise some seeds are sprouting including cherry tomatoes, mini cucumbers and some flower seeds, the potatoes are chitting albeit slowly - we have Wilja and Pentland Javelin this year which will hopefully give us a great crop. Potatoes are my garden 'magic vegetable', how so much comes from one little spud is incredible! Now to plan where to put what when the cold nights are well and truly over.
