“Tolerance”

A guy pushed a cart up to the counter and started unloading various cleaning supplies.  As Tanya began ringing them up, his daughter looked over the candy bars.  Grabbing one, she held it up to him and asked, “Dad, can I get this?”

He lifted a bottle of laundry detergent and set it on the counter, then looked at what she had.  “You don’t need that; we have candy at home.”

The daughter turned away for a moment.  Looking back at her dad, she said, “But with Halloween coming up, I need to build up my candy tolerance.”

The dad put the detergent back in the cart then he and his daughter stared at each other for several seconds.  With a sigh, he grabbed the candy bar and handed it to Tanya to scan.  Handing it back to his daughter he said, “I’m only buying this for you because that is a good point I can probably use later on your mother for something.”

Glancing at Tanya he winked.  Tanya wasn’t sure why he winked at her, but knew she didn’t want to know.
