“Old Story”
Mike walked into the living room and stood for an almost awkwardly long time before slumping on to the couch and letting out a dejected sigh.
His wife Carol rolled her eyes, then put a bookmark in her book. “Problem?”
“I’m getting old.”
After a few seconds, Carol asked, “Is that … news to you?”
“I started writing a story about a guy waking up and realizing he isn’t in any pain. Like, his knee is perfectly fine, he has the back of a teenager, and he doesn’t have any random aches. So he figures he must be dead.”
“Sounds hilarious.”
“Yeah.” Mike nodded a few times. “Then I remembered I already wrote that same story a few years ago.”
“They do say memory is the first to go.”
Mike frowned. Then with a mischievous grin he asked, “Who are you?”
Instead of replying, Carol just opened her book back up.
