A Heart For Coralys #UnCoraPaKori

Apr 21, 2021

Coralys Morales is a 29-year-old Puerto Rican, currently suffering of advanced heart failure, who is living in a hospital while waiting for a Heart Transplant.

Coralys was born with congenital heart disease (CHD). This has caused a total of three open heart surgery procedures. Regardless of her condition, Kori, as we affectionately call her, has never given up on her goals and dreams. From becoming an early childhood educator to pursuing her passion: traveling the world as a flight attendant.

August 2019, her condition aggravated and was diagnosed with heart failure, what made her depend on a portable defibrillator that was eventually implanted (ICD). Unfortunately the outcome did not meet the doctor’s expectations, which got Coralys a spot on the UNOS (United Network for Organ Sharing) list as a candidate for a Heart Transplant, Status 4.

On April 9th, 2021, regardless of procedures and medications, her health deteriorated aggressively, causing an advanced heart failure, making the heart transplant URGENT, moving up to Status 2 on the list. The medications to keep her stable while waiting on a heart can only be given intravenously while being monitored 24 hours a day through Swanz-Ganz (pulmonary catheter), what makes it impossible for her to live at home.

From now until she gets her heart and goes through the post-surgery care and recovery, Coralys will be hospitalized in Chicago where she is getting the best medical assistance while waiting for her new heart. When she finally gets her heart, many months, maybe a year can go by before Kori can go back to work. For this reason, we decided to create this fundraising for her medical expenses, which will help with her mental and financial stability through this process. Our goal is for Kori to focus on her recovery so that she can go back to enjoying life how she deserves and travel the world once again!
