If You’re Rich, Become More Rich: There Is No Limit to God’s Blessing
If you are rich, become richer. If you are famous, become more famous. There is no limit to God's blessing—so long as you use it wisely and for the benefit of others. The Owner of the universe provides endlessly, and wealth, when used properly, is not something to be ashamed of. Instead, it is a test, an opportunity, and a blessing from Allah that can be a means of great good.
The Mother Book and Changing Destiny
Allah has control over everything, and your destiny is written in "اللوح المحفوظ"—the Mother Book. However, that does not mean that it is fixed and cannot be changed. Through your actions, prayers, and striving, Allah can open the doors of wealth for you. Allah has decreed that there is a way for you to be rich, but it is through the test of using wealth responsibly.
"وَمَن يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَل لَّهُ مَخْرَجًا . وَيَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَحْتَسِبُ"
"And whoever fears Allah—He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect." (Quran 65:2-3)
Wealthy Companions of the Prophet (PBUH)
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) did not just create a community of the poor. Among his companions were some of the wealthiest individuals of their time, and their example serves as an inspiration to those blessed with wealth today.
Uthman ibn Affan (RA): One of the wealthiest companions, Uthman financed many of the Prophet’s campaigns, supported the Muslim community, and bought the well of Rumah to make it free for all.
Abdur-Rahman ibn Awf (RA): Known for his immense wealth, Abdur-Rahman was one of the ten promised Paradise. When he migrated to Madinah, he was offered help from his fellow Muslims, but he refused and instead asked to be shown the market. He built his wealth from scratch, and through his business acumen, he contributed significantly to the growth of the Muslim community.
Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (RA): Abu Bakr used his wealth to free slaves, support the Prophet (peace be upon him), and contribute to the cause of Islam. He spent all of his wealth for the sake of Allah, setting an example for generations to come.
The Prophet's Relationship with Wealth
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was not poor. In the morning, wealth would come to him in abundance, but by the evening, it would be gone—distributed to those in need. The Prophet (peace be upon him) was a channel through which wealth flowed. He showed that true wealth is not in hoarding but in giving, and in using what you have to uplift others.
He encouraged his companions to engage in trade and to seek wealth ethically. Wealth was never seen as inherently evil; rather, it was a tool that could be used for great good or great harm, depending on how it was managed.
Wealth Management in the Quran
The Quran emphasizes the importance of managing wealth wisely and not wasting it. Wealth should be used to benefit oneself, one's family, and the community, but it should not be squandered or given to those who cannot handle it properly:
"وَلَا تُؤْتُوا السُّفَهَاءَ أَمْوَالَكُمُ الَّتِي جَعَلَ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ قِيَامًا"
"And do not give the weak-minded your property, which Allah has made a means of sustenance for you." (Quran 4:5)
Wealth is a means of sustenance, and it must be protected and used responsibly. The Quran also encourages saving and investing wisely, ensuring that wealth is used to support the needs of society.
The Value of Giving Back
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasized that those who have been blessed with wealth should give back:
"The upper hand is better than the lower hand. The upper hand is the one that gives, and the lower hand is the one that receives." (Bukhari and Muslim)
The wealthy companions of the Prophet understood this well. They used their wealth to support the community, to build infrastructure, to care for the poor, and to finance the growth of Islam. Their wealth was a means of uplifting others and earning the pleasure of Allah.
A Message to Billionaires: Become Captains of Industry
If you are wealthy, this is your opportunity to become a captain of industry. Create jobs, build businesses, and support the growth of the economy so that others may rise. The companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) were traders, entrepreneurs, and businesspeople who used their wealth to benefit others.
If you have the means to create opportunities, then do so. The best way to thank Allah for the blessings He has given you is to share those blessings with others. Whether it is through charity, creating jobs, or supporting those in need, your wealth can be a means of immense good.
Generosity and Charity in the Quran
The Quran is filled with verses encouraging generosity and charity:
"يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَنفِقُوا مِمَّا رَزَقْنَاكُم مِّن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِيَ يَوْمٌ لَّا بَيْعٌ فِيهِ وَلَا خُلَّةٌ وَلَا شَفَاعَةٌ ۗ وَالْكَافِرُونَ هُمُ الظَّالِمُونَ"
"O you who have believed, spend from that which We have provided for you before there comes a Day in which there is no exchange, no friendship, and no intercession." (Quran 2:254)
Wealth is a blessing, but it is also a test. The way you use your wealth will determine whether it becomes a means of success in the Hereafter or a burden.
The Wisdom of Balance: Wealth with Accountability
Being wealthy is not inherently good or bad; it is how you use that wealth that matters. The companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) showed us that it is possible to be wealthy, to enjoy the blessings of this world, and to use those blessings for the benefit of others. Balance is key—enjoy what Allah has given you, but remember to share and to give back.
"وَابْتَغِ فِيمَا آتَاكَ اللَّهُ الدَّارَ الْآخِرَةَ وَلَا تَنسَ نَصِيبَكَ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا"
"But seek, through that which Allah has given you, the home of the Hereafter; and [yet], do not forget your share of the world." (Quran 28:77)
We Conclude with There Is No Limit to God’s Blessing
Your Lord is the One who has no limit. If you are rich, you can become even richer. If you own a property worth a few million, then why not set your sights on an island and aim for a billion? If you have a billion, there's nothing wrong with striving for a trillion. Allah's treasures are infinite, and His blessings are limitless. Remember, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) helped those who wanted the best of both worlds, and many of his companions achieved it.
The luxurious lifestyle was not denied to those who wanted it—those who became billionaires and trillionaires also received the greatest guarantee of all: Paradise while they were still alive. These companions are known as the "Ashara Mubashara," the ten who were promised Jannah, and they were among the wealthiest and most influential people of their time. They lived with prosperity, generosity, and faith, showing that it is indeed possible to have the best of this world and the next.
If you have wealth, aim for more. Use it to uplift others, create opportunities, and contribute to your community. The Prophet (peace be upon him) never discouraged wealth—he only discouraged greed and misuse. Wealth, when used wisely, is a tool for good and a means of earning Allah's pleasure.
The Hadith of the Poor Companions Complaining About the Rich
The poor companions once came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and complained, saying:
"The rich have taken away all the rewards. They pray as we pray, they fast as we fast, and they give charity from their surplus wealth."
The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied: "Shall I not tell you something by which you may catch up with those who have surpassed you? Say 'SubhanAllah,' 'Alhamdulillah,' and 'Allahu Akbar' thirty-three times after every prayer." (Bukhari and Muslim)
This hadith reminds us that even the rich can earn immense rewards, but those who have less are not left without a way to attain the same standing. Wealth is not a hindrance to spirituality—it is an opportunity.
A Final Reflection and Dua
Let us conclude with a dua that embodies the balance between this world and the next:
"رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ"
"Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire." (Quran 2:201)
Allah knows what is best for you, so do not place limits on how much you can achieve. Whether it is wealth, fame, or influence—whatever you desire, know that your Lord can give you more. He is the Owner of Majesty and Glory, whose treasures are boundless.
"وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَذُو الْفَضْلِ الْعَظِيمِ"
"And indeed, your Lord is full of bounty for the people, but most of them do not show gratitude." (Quran 27:73)
"قُلِ اللَّهُمَّ مَالِكَ الْمُلْكِ تُؤْتِي الْمُلْكَ مَن تَشَاءُ وَتَنزِعُ الْمُلْكَ مِمَّن تَشَاءُ وَتُعِزُّ مَن تَشَاءُ وَتُذِلُّ مَن تَشَاءُ ۖ بِيَدِكَ الْخَيْرُ ۖ إِنَّكَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ"
"Say, 'O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honor whom You will, and You humble whom You will. In Your hand is [all] good. Indeed, You are over all things competent.'" (Quran 3:26)
Trust in Allah's plan, strive for greatness, and remember that Allah's blessings have no limit. May He grant you wealth, prosperity, and success in this world and the next.
