In the Shafi’i school, you are supposed to say this silently, but unfortunately, many people forget this step altogether. If you forget to seek refuge, your prayer may be filled with distractions, doubts, and wandering thoughts. You might start thinking about things you misplaced, your daily worries, or even random memories—all because Shaytan is trying to steal your focus.
For this reason, I strongly recommend that as a new Muslim, you say it loudly until it becomes a habit—until it becomes part of your mental checklist before every prayer.
Before beginning, say clearly:
❝ I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Shaytan. ❞
Then, say:
❝ In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. ❞
Then raise your hands, say "Allahu Akbar," and enter your prayer with full focus.
This is a battle against distraction, and every prayer is an opportunity to win that battle. Make this step a habit, and with time, you will naturally start saying it silently, as prescribed by the school. But until then, say it loud and mean it.

Today, many self-proclaimed scholars with big beards and loud voices attempt to reinvent the wheel, telling people to "pray exactly like the Prophet ﷺ" without guidance. They ignore the fact that millions of scholars have preserved this knowledge for over a thousand years through the four schools of thought. Don't fall for this deception—without the schools, you are left without structure, consistency, or understanding.
By choosing a school, you are choosing the correct and preserved way to worship, ensuring that your Salah, Zakat, fasting, and every aspect of Islam are aligned with the teachings passed down from the companions of the Prophet ﷺ.

Your Journey Begins with Prayer (Salah)
The Shafi'i school follows a structured approach to prayer, beginning with the intention (niyyah). Intention is crucial—it ensures your mind and heart are aligned with your prayer. Have you ever found yourself distracted, thinking about another prayer while praying? The power of niyyah corrects this.
Step-by-Step Guide to Salah in the Shafi'i School:
1️⃣ Intention (Niyyah) – Before you begin, you intentionally set your prayer in your heart. Without this, the prayer is invalid.
2️⃣ Takbir (Allahu Akbar) – Raise your hands and say "Allahu Akbar" out loud to begin your Salah.
3️⃣ Recitation (Surah Al-Fatiha & a Surah) – In every rak’ah, you must recite Surah Al-Fatiha, followed by another surah in the first two rak’ahs.
4️⃣ Ruku' (Bowing) – Bow with your hands on your knees, keeping your back straight.
5️⃣ Sujood (Prostration) – Lower yourself to the ground, with your forehead, nose, hands, knees, and toes touching the ground.
6️⃣ Final Tashahhud & Tasleem – Sit, recite the Tashahhud, and then complete the prayer by saying "As-salamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullah" to the right and left.

Understanding Travel Prayers (Qasr & Jama')
In the Shafi'i school, when traveling, you are allowed to shorten or combine certain prayers based on distance and hardship.
✅ Shortening (Qasr):
You shorten Dhuhr, Asr, and Isha from 4 rak’ahs to 2 rak’ahs if your journey is more than 81 km (50 miles).
✅ Combining (Jama’):
Dhuhr & Asr can be combined at either Dhuhr time (Jama’ Taqdim) or Asr time (Jama’ Ta’khir).
Maghrib & Isha can be combined at either Maghrib time (Jama’ Taqdim) or Isha time (Jama’ Ta’khir).
Fajr can never be combined or shortened.
These allowances make it easy for travelers to maintain their Salah without hardship.
