Now, we continue exploring Surah An-Nisa, delving deeper into justice, the dangers of falsehood, and the importance of obeying divine law. These verses emphasize the consequences of following false guidance, the betrayal of truth, and the necessity of seeking judgment from Allah and His Messenger (ﷺ).

---

1. The Danger of Following False Guidance (4:51-52)

Arabic:

{ أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ نَصِيبًۭا مِّنَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْجِبْتِ وَٱلطَّـٰغُوتِ وَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ أَهْدَىٰ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ سَبِيلًۭا }

Translation:

"Have you not seen those who were given a portion of the Scripture, believing in superstition and false deities and saying to the disbelievers, ‘These are better guided than the believers’ way?" (Surah An-Nisa 4:51)

🔹 Key Insights:

Some among the People of the Book were entrusted with divine knowledge but chose falsehood over truth.

"Jibt" and "Taghut" refer to false beliefs, magic, and oppressive leaders that misguide people.

Hypocrites claimed disbelievers were more guided than the believers, rejecting divine truth for worldly benefits.

---

2. Allah’s Curse on Those Who Reject His Guidance (4:53-54)

Arabic:

{ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَعَنَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ ۖ وَمَن يَلْعَنِ ٱللَّهُ فَلَن تَجِدَ لَهُۥ نَصِيرًۭا }

Translation:

"It is they whom Allah has cursed, and whoever Allah curses—you will not find for him any helper." (Surah An-Nisa 4:52)

🔹 Key Insights:

Rejecting divine truth invites Allah’s curse, leaving a person with no helper in this world or the Hereafter.

Worldly status, power, or approval cannot replace Allah’s guidance.

---

3. The Arrogance of Those Who Deny the Messenger (4:55-56)

Arabic:

{ فَمِنْهُم مَّنْ ءَامَنَ بِهِۦ وَمِنْهُم مَّن صَدَّ عَنْهُۥ ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِجَهَنَّمَ سَعِيرًا }

Translation:

"Among them are those who believed in him, and among them are those who turned away from him. And sufficient is Hell as a blaze." (Surah An-Nisa 4:55)

🔹 Key Insights:

Some among the People of the Book believed in the Prophet (ﷺ), but others rejected him out of pride or personal interest.

Those who rejected guidance are warned of the Fire.

---

4. The Reality of Divine Punishment (4:56-57)

Arabic:

{ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا سَوْفَ نُصْلِيهِمْ نَارًۭا ۖ كُلَّمَا نَضِجَتْ جُلُودُهُمْ بَدَّلْنَـٰهُمْ جُلُودًا غَيْرَهَا لِيَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابَ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَزِيزًا حَكِيمًۭا }

Translation:

"Indeed, those who disbelieve in Our verses—We will drive them into a Fire. Every time their skins are burned, We will replace them with new skins so they may taste the punishment. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise." (Surah An-Nisa 4:56)

🔹 Key Insights:

The punishment of Hell is severe, and Allah describes how those who persist in disbelief will continuously face consequences.

This verse also alludes to scientific knowledge—skin contains pain receptors, showing the Quran’s divine precision.

However, Allah’s justice is always coupled with wisdom. He punishes only those who knowingly reject the truth.

5. The Reward for Believers (4:57)

Arabic:

{ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ سَنُدْخِلُهُمْ جَنَّـٰتٍۢ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًۭا ۖ }

Translation:

"But those who believe and do righteous deeds—We will admit them to Gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever." (Surah An-Nisa 4:57)

🔹 Key Insights:

Belief and righteous action go hand in hand—faith alone is not enough without good deeds.

Jannah (Paradise) is eternal, offering a reward beyond imagination.

---

6. The Importance of Seeking Judgment from Allah and His Messenger (4:58-60)

Arabic:

{ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَأْمُرُكُمْ أَن تُؤَدُّوا۟ ٱلْأَمَـٰنَـٰتِ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهَا وَإِذَا حَكَمْتُم بَيْنَ ٱلنَّاسِ أَن تَحْكُمُوا۟ بِٱلْعَدْلِ ۚ }

Translation:

"Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice." (Surah An-Nisa 4:58)

🔹 Key Insights:

Justice is a divine command, and trust must be placed in the right hands.

Leaders, judges, and those in power must be fair and impartial.

Final Warning Against Seeking Judgment from Falsehood:

Arabic:

{ أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّهُمْ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ وَمَآ أُنزِلَ مِن قَبْلِكَ يُرِيدُونَ أَن يَتَحَاكَمُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلطَّـٰغُوتِ وَقَدْ أُمِرُوٓا۟ أَن يَكْفُرُوا۟ بِهِۦ ۚ }

Translation:

"Have you not seen those who claim to have believed in what was revealed to you and what was revealed before you? They wish to refer legislation to Taghut (false deities and oppressive rulers), while they were commanded to reject it." (Surah An-Nisa 4:60)

🔹 Key Insights:

Some hypocrites claimed belief but sought judgment from unjust rulers instead of Allah’s law.

True belief requires submitting to Allah’s rulings, not corrupt human systems.

Conclusion

These verses emphasize that justice, accountability, and sincere faith are non-negotiable. They warn against false guidance, highlight the severity of divine punishment, and emphasize the importance of seeking judgment only from Allah’s laws.

📖 Reflect, implement, and seek knowledge. May Allah guide us to truth and justice. Ameen.

1. Post-Battle of Uhud: A Period of Testing

The verses in focus were revealed after the Battle of Uhud, a significant event where the Muslims faced considerable losses, including the martyrdom of 70 companions. This period was marked by:

Social and Economic Strain: The community grappled with the loss of many members, leading to concerns about the welfare of widows and orphans.

External Threats: Hostile forces, including the Quraysh and certain Jewish tribes, sought to exploit the perceived vulnerability of the Muslims.

In this climate, the Quran addressed issues of justice, accountability, and adherence to divine guidance to fortify the community's resilience.

2. Allegiances with Opponents: The Case of Ka'b ibn Ashraf

A notable incident during this time involved Ka'b ibn Ashraf, a Jewish leader who opposed the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). He:

Allied with the Quraysh: Ka'b traveled to Mecca to forge alliances against the Muslims.

Engaged in Idol Worship: To solidify this alliance, he participated in idol worship, a direct violation of monotheistic principles.

Praised Disbelievers: He extolled the Quraysh, claiming they were better guided than the Muslims.

These actions exemplify the dangers of compromising faith for worldly gains and highlight the treachery faced by the early Muslims.

3. Hypocrisy Within the Ranks: The Incident of Bishr

Internal challenges also arose from hypocrites within the Muslim community. An illustrative case is that of Bishr, who:

Rejected Prophetic Judgment: In a dispute with a Jew, Bishr refused the Prophet's arbitration, preferring the judgment of Ka'b ibn Ashraf.

Exposed His Hypocrisy: While the Jewish individual trusted the Prophet's fairness, Bishr's avoidance revealed his insincerity and lack of true faith.

This incident underscores the importance of genuine belief and the rejection of hypocrisy.

Lessons for New Muslims

For those new to Islam, these historical contexts offer vital lessons:

Uphold Justice: Even in adversity, maintaining justice is paramount.

Beware of False Alliances: Aligning with those who oppose Islamic principles can lead to spiritual and communal harm.
