Islam does not have a terrorism problem.
It has an accountability problem—created in the last century, ignored by those with power, and paid for by innocent people across the world.
For more than 1,300 years, Islam functioned as a religion of law, ethics, spirituality, scholarship, and social restraint. It governed empires, villages, trade routes, families, courts, and charitable institutions. It produced saints and scientists, jurists and poets, builders and healers. It spread across continents without terrorism, without suicide violence, and without ideological warfare against civilians.
This is not romanticism.
This is historical fact.
And yet today, Islam finds itself constantly placed in the crosshairs—accused, scrutinized, blamed. Not because the religion changed, but because authority was hijacked, knowledge was distorted, and ideology replaced spiritual discipline.
If we want peace to continue, we must stop pretending this happened by accident.
A Simple Historical Truth
For over a millennium, Islam was guided by:
Verified scholarship
Living teachers
Ethical discipline
Spiritual refinement
Legal restraint
Violence against civilians was forbidden.
Rebellion without moral authority was condemned.
Extremism was treated as spiritual disease.
The religion worked because the soul was governed before society was governed.
That system did not collapse because it failed.
It was pushed aside.
Who Historically Carried Islam?
For 1,300 years, the custodians of Islam’s moral compass were not ideologues or political enforcers. They were the Sufis—the people of tasawwuf, spiritual refinement.
They were not a sect.
They were the inner engine of Islamic civilization.
They taught:
Adab (proper conduct before knowledge)
Humility before certainty
Mercy before judgment
Patience before action
Accountability before authority
They built schools, lodges, hospitals, kitchens, endowments.
They spread Islam peacefully across Africa and Asia.
They restrained rulers, softened judges, and trained scholars.
This is why Islam was stable for centuries.
What Went Wrong in the Last 100 Years
The devastation of the modern era did not emerge from Islam. It emerged from three disruptions:
Colonial destruction of traditional institutions
State control and politicization of religion
The rise of ideological simplification
Into this vacuum entered movements that:
Removed spirituality from religion
Flattened scholarship into slogans
Replaced humility with certainty
Treated texts as weapons
Aligned religion with power, not conscience
This is where Wahhabism and modern Salafism enter the story.
Who Are the Wahhabis?
Wahhabism is a puritanical, literalist ideology that:
Rejected centuries of scholarly consensus
Declared vast numbers of Muslims deviant
Opposed spiritual practices that cultivate humility
Reduced Islam to control and compliance
It did not arise organically from Islamic civilization.
It was enforced through political alliance and financial power.
It did not produce:
Art
Philosophy
Science
Ethical pluralism
Spiritual depth
It produced rigidity, destruction of heritage, and theological aggression.
Who Are the Salafis?
Salafism is more fragmented, but its modern ideological form often shares these traits:
Rejection of historical depth
Claim of exclusive authenticity
Detachment from living scholarly transmission
Suspicion or rejection of spirituality
Overconfidence without moral training
Not every Salafi is violent.
But the structure of the ideology makes radicalization easier when mixed with:
Political grievance
War
Trauma
State sponsorship
This is not speculation.
This is observable reality.
The Core Difference: Formation vs Ideology
This is not about labels.
It is about how human beings are formed.
Sufism forms the heart
→ humility, mercy, restraint, accountability
Ideology forms certainty
→ rigidity, hostility, superiority
One polishes the soul.
The other sharpens the ego.
One produces light.
The other produces darkness dressed as clarity.
Why the World Refuses to Listen
Because Sufis:
Do not shout
Do not radicalize
Do not offer simple enemies
Do not serve power easily
Do not monetize outrage
They demand self-reform before world-reform.
And that is inconvenient.
The Cost of Ignoring This
The result has been:
9/11
Endless wars
Radicalized youth
Entire regions destabilized
Muslims blamed for crimes they did not author
Western governments take money, overlook ideology, and then ask:
“Where did the terrorism come from?”
You know where it came from.
This is not ignorance.
It is refusal to act.
No More Excuses
Islam does not need to be reformed.
It needs to be restored to its rightful custodians.
That means:
Holding ideological exporters accountable
Ending the global spread of corrosive teachings
Arresting and dismantling extremist networks
Restoring qualified, living scholarship
Re-centering spirituality, ethics, and restraint
Buying silence is no longer acceptable.
Funding chaos is no longer excusable.
Islam Will Remain Peaceful
This religion was peaceful before modern states.
It was peaceful before oil money.
It was peaceful before ideology.
And it will remain peaceful—if the disease is treated honestly.
Do not blame Islam for terrorism.
Blame negligence.
Blame cowardice.
Blame refusal to confront ideology.
The solution exists.
The teachers exist.
The tradition exists.
The only question left is:
When will the world finally listen to those who kept Islam peaceful for 1,300 years?
A Clear Message to Western Leaders
Afghanistan brought an end to terrorism within its borders.
Why can’t you do the same?
Why can’t you take a comprehensive approach and get things done?
Why are we forced to be victims of so-called “Muslim terrorism” when we do not have to be victims at all?
Let’s take a stand.
Let’s learn from Afghanistan.
Let’s formulate a real plan.
If a country as institutionally limited as Afghanistan can identify, confront, and remove destructive ideological currents—retraining officers and insisting on proper religious instruction—then the West has no excuse for failing to demand the same from Saudi Arabia.
The problem is not capacity.
The problem is will.
For decades, Saudi Arabia has exported an ideology that poisons hearts and minds, fragments Muslim societies, and creates violent externalities far beyond its borders.
These teachings did not arise organically from Islam.
They were politically protected, financially subsidized, and globally disseminated—through mosques, institutions, and paid clerics who were never held accountable.
Islam Has No Relationship With Terrorism
None.
There is a qualified religious tradition, a verified scholarly chain, and a functioning system of transmission that has existed for over 1,300 years.
That system:
Condemns extremism
Rejects rebellion
Forbids the killing of innocents
What has happened over the last 100 years—particularly through state-backed ideological distortion—has been devastating.
Western governments cannot continue to:
Take money
Overlook accountability
Then feign confusion about the origins of terror
You know where the problem comes from.
You have the files.
You have the history.
You have seen the consequences:

The continued radicalization of vulnerable populations
Saudi Arabia Can No Longer Buy Its Way Out
What is required now is an organic plan:
Arrest and dismantle extremist ideological networks
End the global export of corrosive teachings
Take responsibility for negative externalities created abroad
Restore qualified, accountable religious education rooted in authentic Islamic tradition
This Is an Ideological Issue
Not culture.
Not race.
Not faith.
It is about corruption of belief.
It is about poisoning hearts and minds.
No More Deflection
If terrorism occurs again:
Do not blame Islam.
Blame yourselves—
for refusing to demand accountability,
for ignoring viable models,
for allowing ideology to be weaponized
while pretending the problem was unknowable.

Do your jobs.
Learn from those confronting this danger directly—
even if they are poorer, weaker, or less developed.
Demand real action from Saudi Arabia.
And ensure, once and for all, that a religion which has nothing to do with terrorism is never again blamed for crimes born of political negligence and ideological betrayal.
