I have always been a bit of a bigmouth. I was that kid in elementary school who was shushed by the teachers and had letters sent home for talking too much! Anyone who knows me now is not surprised by this fact. I am loquacious, so much so my dear mother jokes that I learned to speak several languages for the purpose of talking even more!
The reality is like so many I believe it is important to have conversations. I see that the art of dialogue is dying, seems weird considering how many podcasts, livestreams, talk shows there are. The truth is the face to face communication, that was once so common is dying. Debates with friends and family, once a common and entertaining venture at gatherings have become so toxic to the point where disagreements create schisms of silence. Most people physically cringe at a phone call and prefer texts, I admit I can be guilty of this at times. However, without meaningful conversations how we relate with others and arrive to conclusions becomes skewed as we dig deeper into our echo chambers online.
My goal with my podcast, from the beginning as been to share a perspective that is unique as well as to foster dialogues with folks who are not often heard. I choose the name Latina Libertarian, because the assumption about libertarians continues to be a stereotype of some fringe white dudes, when the reality is most people espouse libertarian ideas and do not even realize it. My goal is not only to promote the ideas of liberty but to break the illusion of the stereotype and share the diversity in the liberty movement, which is only growing. Plus it is fun to flip the script on identity politics!
I appreciate your help in this journey. Being from the political left and growing up in a major city definetly molded my stubborn thinking for decades and it wasn't until I moved to a different environment, shared experiences outside of my norm and made a conscious decision to dialogue with people with different political perspectives and experiences that I was able to grow and discover a better philosophy that truly reflected my values.
I was happy to discover a site that could make it possible for folks to contribute to that endeavor in a manner that doesn't cost much, but makes it possible for meta continue this endeavor. I appreciate those who have done so. My goal is to continue promoting conversations that are voluntary and peaceful, to share and educate where I can and hopefully add value to the sea of noise out there.
