Why do we do anything?
Nothing is truly necessary. You can go without food (for about 30 days), you can go without water (closer to 3-4 days), you can go without media permanently, you can go without "going to work." None of these are needed. But if you want to waste away and allow nature to take you over like an abandoned parking lot, no one's stopping you.
In order to flourish, you need to eat healthy foods, you need clean water, you need shelter, you need income, you need love, you need to keep your mind entertained. But why do you do these things? Do you do them because you're scared of what will happen otherwise? Or do you use the food as fuel? Do you drink the water so that your body can process, repair, and flourish or because you're dying of thirst? Do you consume some media because you're tired or do you use it as a means to connect with others while allowing your mind to focus on things other than itself?
Do you get out of bed in the morning because you want to experience what life has to offer? Do you do it because you're scared you'll be homeless and need to pay the bills? Do you eat particular foods because they taste good or because their nutrients give you strength? Why do you drink alcohol (if you do)? Why do you smoke weed (if you do)? Why do you consume in moments versus create in others?
Why do you find yourself attracted to certain activities, other humans, or particular modes of entertainment? What do we resonate with these people and things when, sometimes, we know that they're not good for our overall being? Do we rationalize certain behaviors at the cost of our discipline, other people, or even our own self? Skipping your exercise, consuming the junk, scrolling TikTok, sleeping excessively, partaking in events that attribute to our own sense of chaos, spending on things we don't need more of... WHY do we do any of this?
This is always one of the best questions to ask ourselves. "WHY?" Why am I waiting to do the chores that need to get done? Why am I still in bed at 9:30am? Why am I watching TV at 11:30pm? Why am I about to rip down a sleeve of cookies? Why am I having another drink? Why am I drinking another cup of coffee? What parts of ourselves are we medicating?
Why do you work the job that you work? Do you do it because you haven't found anything else? Do you do it purely for the money? Do you enjoy your job? Does it bring you satisfaction? We can find ourselves in a position where, sure, it's not ideal but we're the best we can be at it and that brings us fulfillment. Regardless of what you do, we should do it to the best of our abilities. And if at the end of the day we can't feel good about what we've done, then perhaps it's time to start seeking another path... and building it slowly but surely before we jettison ourselves out of a paycheck. It's your current role in society, be proud of it, but know that it does not define you.
Why do you have the friends that you do? Do they bring you energy? Do you get excited to see you? Do you bring them energy as well or do you find yourself taking theirs? If your conversations are filled with complaints and negativity, it may be time to seek companionship elsewhere. If you find that your time spent with them offers joy, laughter, insight, and growth - you're doing it right.
Why does time spent around "that" person incite anger within you? What part of their being, their words, their behavior starts to trigger you? No one has control over your responses, so when you feel angry, what particular part of YOU does that tickle? Betrayal of a past love? A childhood bully? A negative family member that picks at your every word? There's a pain within you that's unresolved, so before you sink to their frequency, ask yourself, "WHY am I feeling this?"
Why are you with the romantic partner that you're with? Do you get excited to see them? Are you both able to keep each other accountable? Are you both able to help each other grow outside of the comfort zone? Through conflict, are you both able to regulate emotions and discuss things logically without coming to points of shouting? Does being around them bring you a sense of calm or a sense of unease?
"Why" will always be the strongest question you can always ask yourself. It's a tool that can be used to dissect your life, your sticking points, and behaviors so that you can change course, gently, into a life that you want to be living. When we try to change it all in one foul swoop, it's like quickly turning the steering wheel while going 90mph down the highway - some of us can pull that off, but most likely we're going to barrel roll into the guard rails.
For anything that we do, it's always best to take a moment and ask "Why" are we doing it? Why did I choose a path of Medical Qigong? For me, it offered the strongest modality for both growth and health. Through it, I've been able to help countless others grow, allowing them to let go of what does not serve them. Why do I write? So I can fundamentally see my own growth, my logic, and my perspective while sharing it in hopes that it helps others grow. Why do I film? To put my thoughts into words, to put the words into vibration, and to send those vibrations of thought into physical existence to help those beyond me.
If we're always focused on "healing" we're always in the past working on ourselves. There are times for this, but when we do this, we lack action and movement into the present and subsequently the future. Think of healing like cutting off a piece of fungus from a tree. Once it's removed, the tree can continue to grow. If we're always wielding the knife looking for more fungus and cutting away, we whittle away our leaves, our branches, and our trunk. The tree cannot grow if we continually hack away at it. In fact, we'll destroy it.
Why did I write this? To remind myself (and you) WHY I (we) do it all. I do it for love out of my fellow humans, to see us grow collectively, to release the negativity that keeps us from tapping into the present and manifesting our greatest path yet. Get after it, friend. Breakdown some of your choices and see why you do what you do.
Kosmically Yours,
Kris
