Retiring at 25

Retiring at 25

Sep 23, 2021

Back in March, when Covid hit full force, the HVAC business slowed down. My co-worker and I loved to look at Zillow for fun to see what dream houses we could find. You would be amazed at the houses you could find that were so cheap in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

As a little girl, it was my dream to move to Michigan. My grandparents had a lake house just north of Traverse City. It was my little get away. The air was so fresh, everyone was so friendly, and all the stress would leave my body when I would vacation there.

I told my husband how cheap the land was in the U.P., and he joked around
about moving up there. I loved the idea, but I was not quite sure if he did or
not…

My husband decided he was fed up with living in the city. It is fast paced
and everyone is rude. Things got crazy when Covid hit, especially with the
toilet paper hoarders and the Karens of the world.

He asked me if I wanted to move to Alaska, and I said heck no.. I cannot
live in the 100 days of darkness. We chose the next best thing: The U.P

I was at work, on a slow day and found multiple houses with 100 + acres with a small "hunting cabin." I went ahead and sent him all the listings I had found. We called around and spoke with a few realtors on houses that we were interested in. After looking for months it felt like, we found our dream home. A log cabin on 200 acres.

I prayed and prayed to get this house, and things finally fell into place.
It is a cute little home, smaller than what I am used to. The house only had a
generator for electricity, and propane for our refrigerator, lights, and a
secondary source of heat for the winter. It was more off the grid then my
liking, but I was able to adapt.

It was fun telling our work places that we were leaving to live off the
grid, and retire at the ages of 25 & 26 to live our dream. They were
surprised at first, but said if they had the opportunity, they would take it
themselves. Luckily, my work decided that they would want to keep me as a stay at home Customer Service Representative. I was very blessed to be able to have this opportunity and to continue working for the company I love.

So here I am, working and enjoying the beauty of God's country. Not a lot of
people can say they have the view I do from working at home.

Long story short, if you have the chance to live your dreams, do it. No
matter how old you are, you should live the life you want. Follow your dreams and work hard to get to them. It will all pay off in the end.
