A Fearsome Spider Gives Insight
One evening, I was taking a walk around my house when I saw a giant spider sitting in the thick growth near the wall. At first, a visceral fear struck me, but then I started thinking about how the spider moved with such precision, like a small machine.
That got me wondering — aren’t we also like machines in some ways? The spider, me, all the animals — moving and breathing, powered by the food we eat. What does it really mean to think of our bodies as machines?
