Phetchaburi Birding Trip (3 Days)

Phetchaburi Birding Trip (3 Days)

Feb 07, 2022

Petchaburi is a province of Thailand to the southwest of Bangkok. Coastal mudflats, salt farms, rice fields, lowland tropical forest and montaine forest habitats mean that it has one of the most diverse avifauna of any region of Southeast Asia. I frequently take other birders to this area as it is a fairly short journey from Bangkok to see lots of superb birds in a short time frame and did so again between 31st Jan and 2nd Feb 2022 with two British bird watchers.

1. Chinese Egret

2. Black-tailed Godwit

3. Red-necked Stint

4. Slaty-legged Crake

5. Lesser Necklaced Laughingthrush

6. Indochinese Blue Flycatcher

7. Black-and-red Broadbill

8. Orange-breasted Trogon

9. Bar-winged Flycatcher-shrike

10. Ratchet-tailed Treepie

11. Ashy Drongo

12. Rufous-browed Flycatcher

13. Greater Spotted Eagle

14. Asian Openbill

Over the course of three days we saw over 200 species of birds ranging from the critically endangered Spoon-billed Sandpiper in the salt farms to the impressive Great Hornbill feeding on fruiting trees in the forest.
