Common Ringed Plover

Apr 09, 2021

Common Ringed Plover is a difficult bird to approach without it flying away but by sitting still close to the water's edge, I was able to get this series of photographs of this bird as it rested and fed on the beach.

Shellness in Kent, UK, is one of my favourite places to go birding in Britain. There are always good numbers of birds to see there, no matter what the time of the year, and it is quite a wild and lonely place, despite not being that far from London as the crow flies. Common Ringed Ploveris one species which is ever-present, being a bird that breeds there in summer with its numbers increasing in autumn and through winter. Over the course of a number of visits I managed to get quite a lot of video footage of Common Ringed Plovers which i have put together in this video- https://youtu.be/DnxjhxwKj28
