DAY HIKE STONES THROW FROM LONDON

A truly refreshing beginner-and family-friendly day hike. Start this hike from the Ashridge Estate cafe, where you can have some fresh coffee/tea and visit the shop. There are plenty of free car parking spaces, but please consider making a donation to the National Trust to help maintain this area.

What's on the route: public footpaths and bridleways, plenty of fantastic ancient woodlands, open hillsides and panoramic views to enjoy a picnic. This walk is very special, as the views and woods are fantastic, and there's also the rare butterfly nature reserve (butterflies in late spring) en route. There are a couple of pubs 3/4 of the way in a village, should you fancy a refreshing drink or a bite to eat.

This superb day hike loops back to the cafe where you started.
