As we meditate on the Book of Psalms, we discover songs of praise, worship, prayer, and the many attributes of God revealed through the experiences and emotions of the psalmists. The Psalms help us see God as Creator, King, Protector, Deliverer, Shepherd, and loving and faithful Father. They also reveal the hearts of those who love God and fear the Lord. Through their struggles, prayers, victories, and moments of weakness, we learn how to place our trust in God.

Today, we are meditating on Psalm 3, a psalm of David written when he fled from his son Absalom. David was facing a serious threat to his life because Absalom wanted to take the throne of Israel and destroy his father. In this painful situation, David cried out to God and looked to Him for protection, deliverance, and salvation.

David begins by honestly expressing his pain:

“O LORD, how my adversaries have increased!
Many are rising up against me.
Many are saying of my soul,
‘There is no deliverance for him in God.’”
— Psalm 3:1–2

David’s enemies were surrounding him, and people were saying that even God could not save him. Yet David did not allow the words of his enemies to destroy his faith. Instead, he turned his eyes toward the Lord.

“But You, O LORD, are a shield about me,
My glory, and the One who lifts my head.”
— Psalm 3:3

David understood that God Himself was his protection. Because he trusted the Lord, he could say:

“I lay down and slept;
I awoke, for the LORD sustains me.
I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people
Who have set themselves against me round about.”
— Psalm 3:5–6

What a powerful testimony of faith! Even in the midst of danger, David could sleep peacefully because he knew that the Lord was sustaining him.

Finally, David cried out:

“Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God!”
— Psalm 3:7

And he concluded with this powerful declaration:

“Salvation belongs to the LORD;
Your blessing be upon Your people!”
— Psalm 3:8

When troubles come into our lives, we can remember that God is our refuge, our strong tower, our protector, and our deliverer. The God who delivered David is still faithful today. We can place our lives, families, future, and every difficult situation into His hands.

Salvation belongs to the Lord. Trust Him, seek Him, and remain faithful to Him.

God bless you and have a blessed day. Love God and love people.
