For kids and adults alike, it’s a valuable technique that can be used anytime, anywhere.
The Benefits:
- Physiological Benefits: When we breathe mindfully, we activate the body’s parasympathetic nervous system, also known as the “rest and digest” system. This slows our heart rate, lowers blood pressure, and reduces the levels of stress hormones in our bodies. It’s like hitting a reset button for our nervous system.
- Psychological Benefits: Mindful breathing helps shift our focus away from worries and anxieties, bringing us back to the present moment. It’s especially helpful for kids who may feel overwhelmed by social media pressures or emotional triggers. By grounding ourselves in the here and now, we can think more clearly and respond more calmly.
