When Forbidden Love is Magical

When Forbidden Love is Magical

In February 2023, I wrote a short story about two witches in a nightclub full of demons, vampires, and werewolves.

For thousands of years, witches and demons have been slaughtering each other, and this ancient animosity existed between vampires and werewolves too.

Of course, while most people hated each other, not everyone held these racist views.

One of them was a demon named Nyx. Upon arriving in Rorel (the human realm or Earth), Nyx quickly learned that demons and witches were mortal enemies. But she couldn’t possibly care about that.

So with her wealth and power, she built an underground nightclub where everyone — demons, witches, vampires, werewolves, and humans— could exist in harmony.

The name of the club was The Union. It was also the title of the short story.

As a demon who grew up in Heldan (the demon realm), Nyx knew firsthand how deeply hostility ran, so she formed rules to protect everyone in her nightclub.

The first and most important rule was that whatever happened at The Union must be consensual. And since Nyx had the power to deal with people who defied her, no one dared break her rules.

Now, let’s get back to the two witches at the beginning of the story, shall we?

They were two best friends, Meredith and Alicia.

Alicia, the more adventurous of the two, found out about the underground club and dragged Meredith along one fine night.

All of Meredith’s life, it had been furiously drummed into her mind how utterly evil demons were. So like most witches, she grew up hating them.

But once at The Union, seeing witches and demons dancing together without a care in the world, her prejudice got challenged.

Later that night, after a vampire danced with her, he lured Meredith to the roof of the nightclub. Then he broke the most important rule of The Union by trying to suck Meredith’s blood without her consent.

Nyx would have none of that.

And that was how Meredith and Nyx met for the first time.

It was supposed to be only a short story. Nothing more.

For someone who had been taught to see demons as vile creatures, I wanted to use The Union to show Meredith that witches and demons weren’t so different after all.

She had been told that all demons were irrational beings who killed witches for fun.

But once she met Nyx, a real demon, for the first time, it shook her entire perception of the world. Even worse, she realized to her horror that she was attracted to Nyx.

A freaking demon.

You see, it was supposed to be a story of irony. One that would make a young witch question her worldview after a simple visit to a nightclub.

That was it.

But while writing The Union, I got more invested in Nyx and Meredith’s story and wanted to explore it deeper. So I turned that one story into a series of independent short stories.

However, three stories in, the whole thing was all over the place and I wasn't feeling it.

So instead of writing random short stories about Nyx and Meredith, I reorganized everything from scratch and developed it into a novel.

The novel delves deeper into the root of the hatred between demons and witches, testing Nyx and Meredith’s forbidden love every step of the way.

Extremists on both sides want Nyx dead because she’s trying to bring peace. However, not only must Nyx worry about herself. She must do whatever it takes to protect her fated mate from the wrath of hateful demons and witches.

From a mere short story to an entire novel. This book is Her Witch, Her Demon.

I published the first draft online and it got a lot of fans. Most of my readers were asking… no… demanding a sequel. It’s a trilogy, so yes, there will be two more books in the series.

But seeing how people loved the book, I revised it, polished it up, and turned it into an ebook.

If you love paranormal romance exploring the themes of forbidden love with lots of action, magic, and smut, then you’ll love this book.

Read it for free right here.

Happy reading!
