I'm sure you've all received my email around this, but just in case you missed it, the Moonlight Sonata time lapse video is now published. The video is actually better than my previous video (which was a general promo) because I am showing you in real-time how this product fares with this Sonata on camera. I had to stop recording dozens of times as I came across issues. But as I fixed problems, scoring became seamless. Please give this a watch!
How this exercise has helped Music Jotter
During this process, not only have I picked up some nifty video editing tricks, but this 2-3 week process has benefited this software in the following ways:
Stabilize Music Jotter
Improve speed
Music Jotter now behaves like Google Docs (a consistent save state)
Stabilized voices
Improved the speed of time signature updates
Many other issues fixed along the way...
Page load speed is a huge deal: Here are some benchmarks
There are two types of views. The published score view, and the edit mode view. The published score view would be read only and look something like this:
You can play around with various attributes to shape your score. Meanwhile, the edit mode view would be your Music Jotter instance, where you compose.
Now, for the Moonlight Sonata benchmarks
Moonlight Sonata in read only mode loads in about 1 second.
Moonlight Sonata in edit mode loads in about 3 seconds.
Speed is something that I will always make an effort to improve. There are various techniques that I am learning while creating this software to help achieve faster loading times.
