Every three or four years I pull out a box from my closet that is stuffed with old notebooks and read through what I had written (sadly most of them have less than twenty pages covered with one drop of ink). I’ve been dragging this damn box around for thirty years now. The box has occupied space in Connecticut, Washington DC, Virginia, South Carolina, and now has found a permanent home (hopefully) in sunny California. Previously I have found the will to toss out a few notebooks, but inevitably, after a crappy screenplay has mercifully been retired to a landfill, I’ll feel a sting of self-betrayal. Surely aspiring writers do not send old work, however shabby, into the trash. Right?
I have never described myself as a writer, I give myself points for the self-awareness and lack of ego. I tell myself, and others, that I am an aspiring writer. I personally feel one first needs to publish something that someone, somehow, somewhere has read and put a dollar into my pocket and THEN I will be a writer. If I had fifteen dollars in bitcoin I would not call myself a “cryptocurrency investor”, so my box of notebooks is truly evidence of nothing. But yet, drum roll please…I’m giving it another go.
I’ve always been 99% inspiration and 1% perspiration So, dear reader, here is where Buy Me A Coffee comes in to save the day and revive my dream. I will be spurred along by your encouraging words forthcoming (here is where I should insert the fingers crossed emoji) and moreover the donations I receive will be a challenge to my character and demand that I forge ahead and post content on a regular basis.
And now I think, quite lucidly, that “I should just be grateful to have people read me” (and surely you are thinking the same thing), but realistically I would need to monetize my writing to keep it going. Presently I play poker poker around fifty hours a week to pay the bills. Time is money. My dream is by 2026 I’ll be playing poker forty of poker each week and writing ten hours a week…and still getting the bills paid. So all donations and subscriptions will be greatly appreciated:)
Well, I’ll check in again shortly. I’m heading out to buy a few notebooks.
