Oops. I got caught up in my latest hyperfixation - revamping all my PrideShrooms and totally forgot to post last week! Thursday, Friday, and Saturday afternoon I drew from the time I woke up to the time (way past my bedtime) I went to sleep. But the result is a beautiful and diverse new line of PrideShrooms! They will be available as 3” vinyl stickers and eventually as patches. The outlines will also serve as the mushrooms of coloring pages as all the PrideShrooms are based on real mushrooms.
Speaking of coloring pages . . . This week’s page is based on one of my Favorite mushrooms . . . The Morel! Or, Morchella esculanta. The conical or ovate caps are lined with ridges and pits ranging from brownish-cream, to grayish brown in color - usually lighter on the ridges and darker in the pitsqand are hollow (which is a distinguishing factor between true morels and their look-alikes). The stem which ranges from white to pale yellow is also hollow and bulbous in shape. Spore printing is difficult due to the shape of the caps, but spore range in color from white to yellowish. Morels are commonly found in North America as well as Brazil and Bulgaria. They may be mycorrhizal or saprotrophic and may be found in forests, orchards, yards, gardens, and recently burned areas in the early spring.
I also used the morel for the Pansexual PrideShroom.
In addition to the 8.5x11” mandala framed mushrooms coloring book, I’ve decided to do a mini 3”x3” book with just the mushrooms. Since it will have fewer pages and I’m using the same outlines as the PrideShroom stickers, I should be able to publish that sooner than the big one!
I also have started drawing stickers for some of the causes I care about. If there is interest in buying any of these, I plan on donating the proceeds to relevant aid organizations.
Last Saturday was mine and Audrey’s sixth (!) anniversary. We celebrated by stopping by our favorite local queer tea shop where we had our first date, as well as a nearby oddities shop we’ve been meaning to visit since that first date. Then we got poke and bubble tea at another favorite shop.
