Blog update: new focus, new language, and monthly support option

Aug 27, 2021

Hello hello!

It's been a good long while since I posted anything to the Monoglot Anxiety site — or managed to consistently mail out the newsletter for that matter — but I'm finally back and have some plans to shake things up that I hope you'll enjoy.

First, the Monoglot Anxiety blog has a new focus: solo language learning. Since launching, I've been swinging back and forth between different ideas for what the blog would be about. At first, I planned to focus exclusively on German. But I realized pretty quickly that I'd have a lot to say about learning to self-teach a language in general, and that I'd inevitably get the itch to branch out to other languages one day, too. After this time away, I've decided that going forward the blog will be centered around solo language learning — but since I'm writing from my own experience, there will still be plenty of German-related content and resources. Of course, it's possible that things will shift around in the future. But this is the plan for now.

In that spirit, I've decided to begin studying Italian next month! German will always be my first love, but I'm itching to be a beginner again — and to put what I learned about language learning to work with a new language. I plan on treating it as a little experiment: I'll track how my learning strategy changes each month with summary posts to the blog each month and quick posts for monthly supporters here.

And finally, speaking of supporters: It is now possible to support Monoglot Anxiety as a monthly supporter. Supporters get access to a supporters-only chat group with me and exclusive posts and updates. They can also vote on the theme of each month's booster pack and — since things are still pretty early — will have a hand in deciding what supporter benefits get added as things develop.

Whew. That's a chunk of text. But I'm excited to be back to writing about languages!
