Welcome to Monkey Block’s ‘Buy Me a Coffee’, where you can show your appreciation with a one-time donation, or make ongoing, monthly contributions, and continuously show your support for your favorite early San Francisco history podcast.
As a one-time supporter, you are helping with the costs to host and publish the podcast, as well as new sound effects and songs.
As a monthly contributing member, in addition to your ongoing support, you gain access to the ‘story behind the story’, as well as … additional stories; the ones I stumbled across while researching the main story. (Tah dah! A lot of story in just one sentence.)
What’s the Reason for Creating the Buy Me a Coffee Page?
Sometimes, the research for an episode led to an unexpected adventure, and therefore research, or I was introduced to people with interesting stories about early San Francisco. But, they didn’t fit my timeline at that moment. But, I didn’t want to lose track of the story or the person.
I wanted a place to tell quick stories, without jumbling the podcast’s (mostly) chronological timeline.
Each episode takes a month to put together, and that’s what you ultimately hear. There have been a few times I dropped the intended story because there wasn’t enough substantial information, while also wondering if it was just a legend. I still wanted a place to tell the legend, because it’s a fun story.
Another reason for the Buy Me a Coffee is sometimes I remove paragraphs of my research for the sake of telling one cohesive 20 – 30 minute story. So, lots of interesting offshoots make it the cutting room floor, sort of speak. Now, I can tell those stories on here.
This last reason is a little touchy, but sometimes, I tiptoe around topics, to avoid the controversial nature of the person or the subject. On the podcast, I refrain from expressing my personal opinions on events. Although, I will occasionally allude to my thoughts…
Basically, this page gives me the opportunity to say more than I would on a free podcast, available to anyone in the world. Here, the stories can be short, less structured, more conversational, and out of chronological order. I have a lot of freedom to be more creative and skip around from 1776 – 1906, or later.
Why Did I Decide on Buy Me a Coffee? Why Not Patreon?
After researching a handful of creator sites, and I decided on Buy Me a Coffee because it allows listeners to contribute just one time, without having to create an account, or having to sign up for monthly contributions. Obviously, if you want to provide monthly support, I can accommodate that, on Buy Me a Coffee as well.
When I started this podcast, I wanted to meet others who enjoyed early San Francisco history. I hope this page allows me to interact with you, so I can learn what you like, and what could enhance the experience.
What Can You Expect Right Now?
In the immediate future, I will revisit my released episodes and provide additional backstory, when there was backstory, or an interesting side story.
I also plan to interview people and release those interviews as bonus material.
What Can You Expect in the Future?
I plan to create and incorporate educational videos as bonus material, in the coming months.
Stay tuned. This site is a work in progress, so it will initially be fluid.
Whether you are a one-time supporter, or a monthly contributor, I’m grateful to have you on the journey. If you become a monthly subscriber, you’ll want to add [email protected] to your address book, so the future notifications don’t go to your spam folder.
Oh, one more thing. The podcast itself will always be free.
Thank you, Dear Listener. I hope you have a wonderful day.
