Find relief from stress and anxiety (nervous system regulation)

Oct 24, 2025

Did you ever have your nervous system caught in "fight or flight" mode for a prolonged time?

Did you ever experience these symptoms:

  • inablibity to choose or take action

  • constant fear

  • dizziness or disturbances in cardiovascular health

  • general anxiety or depression

  • difficulty swallowing or feeling of "shoaking"

  • difficulty sleeping

  • digestion issues

  • stressed out

If you answer "yes", act now!

If you answer yes, it's likely that your vagus nerve is not functioning properly. The vagus nerve is your main nerve in the parasympathetic nervous system, the system responsible for "rest and digest" -functions. The system that helps you relax.

We don't try to turn off the sympathetic nervous system (fight and flight), instead we activate the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest).

We all have these above mentioned symptoms short term, and they are not "bad", just body and mind keeping you safe. However, if they stay on for a longer time, it's better to take action.

You do not have to suffer.

If you already experience these or similar symptoms for a prolonged time, there's always tools for relief. These are my own recommendations, based on my own experience, to serve as tips and ideas.

Always listen to yourself, first and last. Try it out and see what works for ❤️You❤️.

These tools helps to activate your vagus nerve and parasympathetic nervous system ("rest and digest".

  1. Acupuncture. I've experienced instant relief from an over active sympathetic nervous system (fight and flight). Already from the first visit, there's been help and then after some session, I've felt the ease of a regulated nervous system.

If you live in south Finland, I warmly recommend talented and experienced acupuncturist Harry Young at Liangtse Wellness Tapiola.

  2. Excercise. Helps to get the energy moving in the body, releasing stagnated energy and increase oxygen flow to brain. Removes aces and pains and gives you a boost of endorphins, your happiness hormones. Out for a walk in nature always helps.

  3. Yogic practices. Movements in sync with your breath helps with overthinking.

Easy yoga poses I've found useful to activate the vagus nerve:

    • Supported inversions, such as "legs up the wall".

    • Forward folds, such as "child's pose" or gentle forward bends from a seated position.

    • Bridge pose (lye on your back with knees bent and foot soles on the floor, lift your hip, you can put a pillow or two under your hip, so that hips are higher up than your heart).

    • Spinal twist lying on your back.

Also try a few rounds of conscious breathing, where your exhale is longer than your inhale. You can for instance inhale on a count to 4 and exhale on a count to 8. Notice the natural pauses between the breaths.

All yoga poses and breathing practices should be done with gentle and pleasant breath, if you want to activate the "rest and digest" -functions in your body.

  4. Social connections. Speak with friends, family or a professional therapist. When you speak about your challenges, you free yourself from any shame you might have about your challenge. A heart to heart chat is always uplifting!❤️

I use all these tools. So grateful for the relief when needed. When we get the relief, it helps to feel empowered too, and thus, be able to take other actions that supports overall wellbeing.

You've gotta help yourself!

To conclude, I would like to add:

Figure out what caused the symptoms. Are you in a unsatisfying job? How's your relationships? Is your inner talk supportive? Are your beliefs about your self and the world uplifting?

The symptoms are a gift to redirect us into alignment of our soul.

Sincerely yours,

Monika❤️🌹
