Hello friends,
June has arrived on the homestead and we are finally seeing that beautiful Alaska sunshine we have all been waiting for. After such a long, cold spring it feels like the entire homestead is waking up at once. The days are long, the sun is shining, and everywhere we look there is a project calling our name.
This is the season we dream about all winter.
May was a month filled with both joy and some heartbreak for our family. On Mother’s Day we said goodbye to our sweet Tipper Ann after 14 years. She passed peacefully at home, exactly how I had prayed she would. Losing a dog that has been part of your family for that long is never easy, but we are so thankful she was surrounded by love and able to leave this world in the most gentle way possible. She will forever be part of our family story.
At the same time, the homestead keeps moving forward and there is new life everywhere. The baby chickens have officially moved outside and they are living their absolute best chicken life! They are growing like crazy, exploring their new space, and reminding us that every season brings something new.
The garden is finally going in, and I could not be more excited. Every year we add a little more, learn a little more, and get closer to the vision we have for this land. There is something so special about putting your hands in the dirt and believing in what something can become.
One of the biggest transformations this year has been the landscaping project. When we bought this place, we saw potential — but sometimes it was hard to picture the finished dream through all the work that needed to happen. This month that project should finally be coming to a close, and the progress has been unbelievable.
For the first time I am really catching the vision of what this homestead is going to look like.
The gardens, the trees, the paths, the little beautiful spaces tucked between all the practical working parts of a homestead. I have always focused on building, growing, storing, and preparing — but this is my first real attempt at creating the beauty around it too. I am so excited to learn landscaping and watch this property become not just functional, but beautiful.
Slowly but surely, this little piece of Alaska is becoming home in every way we imagined.
Thank you for being here through all the seasons — the messy projects, the big dreams, the losses, the victories, and everything in between.
We are so thankful you choose to spend your time with our family.
Here’s to sunshine, gardens, baby chickens, and building something beautiful.
Love,
Jessica
