Lately I have fallen down the rabbit hole of "female empowerment" and "therapy" pages on Instagram.
If you have been following my feed you will see a lot of posts in quick succession.
Despite me telling instagram not to show me such content, it pushed it into my feed regardless.
So imagine how many young, impressionable girls and boys are seeing this content.
Content that says to boys:
Shut up and take the abuse off girls, its you thats in the wrong for reacting negative when someone talks about you like dirt.
Content that says to girls:
Being abusive is ok, they deserve is, you dont have to listen to anyone, you dont have to change for any reason, its other peoples fault for not changing to make your life more comfortable.
Now think about that, how many accounts, many with 100'000s of followers, sometimes millions!
That are teaching girls to be abusers and boys to be punch bags.
But also note, when it comes to female empowerment content, they dont always frame it around men, but anyone! So yes they are teaching girls to be abusive to other girls.
Even documented content that teaches girls how to weaponise the system.
Now who is pushing all this hateful content? That sees boys as simpering husks who's only purpose is to serve women and be punching bags?
That encourages girls to indulge their worst impulses?
Well there are a lot of accounts that would seem to be indeviduals acting out their own desperate fantasies, others that claim to be "a victim helping others" while promoting abuse they say women shouldnt be victim of. And ideas that conflict resolution is either violence, false accusations against the other person, and not something that requires collaboration and conversation.
We hear endless nonsense about "the manosphere" like its the Taliban or some other terrorist level org.
But this content that is blatently, activly, teaching girls that being abusive is not only OK, but "justified" makes up the bulk of online content. It makes up the majority of followers. Its the most serious issue of radicalisation we have in the world today.
So why arent international orgs like the UN, our governments etc, acknowledging and tackling it?
Well, China oddly is, its limiting such content on social media because they are recognising the harms its promoting to general society and sociability in people.
But the rest? are infultrated by this horrific indeviduals.
UN Women especially, but the UN in general, the World Health Organisation.
Austrlian Government, UK, US, France, Germany etc are all plagued with it because these people have climbed into positions of power they should never have reached in a civilised society. But worst still, they see how popular it is online, and know all they have to do is sing along and everything will be OK.
In short, societies moral compass is truly fucked.
I have been against the idea of censorship for a long time, because its always voices like mine that are silenced, that will point to what another person says and does, call it out for being abusive.
Rather than silence those who promote such blatent hate.
But as time passes, I am getting to a point I side with China's approach.
Which is scary when you account for all their other issues including silencing other political discent.
